Suppliers, manufactures, and factories are a very important part of the process that creates a brand. Manufacturers are the starting point in the supply chain and play a pivotal role in a brand’s identity.
HOW WE FIND SUPPLIERS
At Kismet London our non-negotiables are Quality and Accessibility, both influenced by manufactures we work with, therefore finding suppliers is an essential part of our business.
Here is our process in finding the right supplier:
- As simple as it sounds, we find suppliers via some research on the internet, looking into countries that are known for producing leather goods
- We reach out to the suppliers and give them a general brief of the project and product we’re working on
- Sustainability and ethics play an important role in our decision-making process. We inquire about the sustainability practises and the ethical working conditions of the factory
- If the manufacturer and factory can meet the quantity of products we need, design of the products, and are in line with our sustainability approach they are shortlisted
- We then send out an in-depth product specification sheet and tech pack that dives into the details of the product, including materials, threading, hardware, placement, and branding
- Our spec sheets all include digital drawings of our products with the all the details clearly laid out. Often when dealing with manufacturers, communication can be an issue therefore simplicity and conciseness are key
- Manufacturers will then get back to us with a sample price and rough price per unit - We then import all the samples produced from the shortlisted manufacturers and sit down as a team to compare and analyse. This is where we make iterations to the product and relay information back to the manufacturers
- Kismet’s founding philosophy is Quality and Attainability, we use this philosophy in all our decision-making process and especially when it comes to deciding which factory to use
- A factory that meets our quality criteria, accessibility price point, and sustainability vision will receive our business
- We write up a contract that outlines the product details, quantity, quality, production time and shipping timeframe, once both parties have confirmed and signed bulk production can then begin
MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS
Communication can often be a struggle when dealing with manufacturers in different countries, therefore having a digital drawing of your product with clear and concise details is essential. In addition to that you want to find a factory that aligns with your brand in terms of quality, price point, quantity, production time, sustainability, and ethical working conditions. There are plenty of factors to consider when dealing with manufacturers and it is important to iron out the kinks before an official contract has been signed.
